HIGHWAY GARAGE VOTE

Dear Residents,

Greetings! We wanted to bring to your attention to the upcoming public referendum that will determine whether our town will move forward with the adoption of the 5.3 million dollar Bond Resolution approved on December 13th, 2023. The bond will be utilized for the relocation and construction of the Town Highway Garage.

We understand that there have been a lot of rumors and differing opinions on the matter, which is why we are encouraging all residents to take the time to educate themselves on the issue. This will help you make an informed decision when the time comes to vote. We have included a Frequently Asked Questions sheet on the preceding pages. You can also access additional information, drawings and details on Our website under latest News, Highway Garage Vote.

On April 6th, 2024 there will be an open house at the existing highway garage from 11:00am-12:30pm so that residents may tour the current facility.

Also on April 6th, 2024 there will be an information session starting at 1:00pm at the Chaumont Fire Hall to view the plans for the proposed facility, and ask questions regarding the project and its impact.

The information will be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/swp/lyme.

The referendum will be held on April 9th, 2024 from 12:00pm – 8:00pm at the Town Offices. Please enter through the courtroom.

We urge you to participate in the referendum when it takes place

We want to remind you that your voice matters, and we value your input as we move forward with this decision. This is your chance to express your views and have a say in the future of our town. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

Respectfully,

The Lyme Town Board

  • The current town garage is insufficient to meet the needs of the highway department and appears to be in need of considerable maintenance and repair for continued use. The the highway crew does a tremendous job with the tools they have at hand and deserve the best possible facility to accommodate their work. For that reason and because the requisite maintenance and repairs to continue using the existing garage would cost a large chunk of the money needed to build the new garage it seems to me to be the only right thing to do. Build the new garage and equip it with a full compliment of modern equipment and amenities to enable and enhance the work of the crew.
